Save these before you need care
  • Your insurer's 24-hour assistance number
  • Policy or certificate number
  • Medical coverage limit and deductible
  • Exclusions such as pre-existing conditions, sports, or pregnancy
Before going to a hospital
  • For a life-threatening emergency, call 119 before checking insurance
  • If you can travel safely, ask your insurer about partner hospitals, cashless care, and whether you must call first
  • Even with insurance, a hospital may ask you to pay in full first
Keep these after the visit
  • Receipts and itemized bills
  • Medical certificate, prescription, and test results when provided
  • Police report number or documents for theft or an accident
  • Dates and names from conversations with your insurer
