Save these before you need care
- Your insurer's 24-hour assistance number
- Policy or certificate number
- Medical coverage limit and deductible
- Exclusions such as pre-existing conditions, sports, or pregnancy
Before going to a hospital
- For a life-threatening emergency, call 119 before checking insurance
- If you can travel safely, ask your insurer about partner hospitals, cashless care, and whether you must call first
- Even with insurance, a hospital may ask you to pay in full first
Keep these after the visit
- Receipts and itemized bills
- Medical certificate, prescription, and test results when provided
- Police report number or documents for theft or an accident
- Dates and names from conversations with your insurer
